I've changed my mind about a sci-fi for screenwriting class.
I'm now going to write a Western with a young, smart, drunk, ambitious, violent, well-meaning, off-putting, son of a Confederate hero protagonist. His town is under the legal authority of Reconstruction Era imposed corrupt Yankee Sheriff and his two cohorts. While also being plagued by a gang of six criminals that have a hideout close to town that constantly brings on extra trouble.
More on this later.

Keep it up
Still need to get a lot of my old ideas down.
A couple stories I've discarded the idea of finishing:
X1. Nobility and Malevolence - A drama about violence and poverty in American Cities. I was drawn to the idea by a desire to write a more unique version of this kind of story. I lost the desire to finish this, because my characters became something I didn't like and so I'm putting this out of my priorities for now.
X2. ?A ReImagining of traditional Angels and Demons - The premise of this story was that, there are multiple gods in the universe that behave sort of like cosmic feudal lords. Demons were the celestial race created by the god who originally controlled Earth and its solar system. Angels were created by a god who comes to Earth, starts a war with the old god, kills the old god (too long to explain why,) and takes over. Gods cannot completely die however and the power of this god is transferred upon his/her death to two of his/her favorite children Satan and Dantes during battle. Satan flees the battle taking the surviving children of the old god (demons) and hides inside the Earth (in a spiritual dimension kind of way). Dantes offers himself to the new god in order to secure the safe retreat of the rest of the demons. The new god puts Dantes in eternal imprisonment in heaven (his spiritual dimension of Earth's solar system). The other demons are safely tucked away in Hell, which the new god cannot reach, because he would have to destroy Earth in order to do so. Millenia go by and the story pickes up when Dantes is escapes his imprisionment from Heaven. The rest of the story deals with Dantes trying to decide what role he will play in the final war between the Demons and Angels.
I stopped developing this story after reading the Divine Comedy and coming up with my "Dysgaea" tale which I believe is a superior story.

Last night...
I came up with a new story idea.
5. ?? (short film/screenwriting) - Humanity on Earth is an important experiment for a highly advanced extraterrestrial race (they are trying to find a species that is good enough to inherit their legacy of knowledge and technology). The story revolves around the conversation of the last two individuals of the alien species about whether or not Humanity will be ready to inherit their race's legacy before they die. At its core the story is about philosophy and religion. Things like this have been done before, but... fuck em'.

3. Louis XVI - (use this for screen writing class) Create an honest view of the end of Louis XVI's life.
4. Capua - Based on the events of Italian cities rebelling against Rome in the second Punic War.

Number 2
2. New Idea - Under the influence of reading Native American tales
Two Native American twins are trained by their highly intelligent mother for a specific task: to go back in time hundreds of years before Europeans arrive in North and South America and take control of the continents in order to prepare Native American society to rival Europe.

One of many
1. Sociopathica (as opposed to no title):
Novel - Hard to describe, semi-dystopian modern world a hundred years in the future or so. The world is controlled by one man (the antagonist) who has a mysterious power that allowed him to control the world. Generally all aspects of society have improved from poverty and health care to the near elimination of war on a global scale. This "better" world is traded for the existence of a group of murderous sociopaths that have complete protection and support of the antagonist. Society is generally ignorant of these murderers and accepts their presence, because any single individual is unlikely to be personally affected. The protaganist is a man who goes on a quest to kill the world's dictator in order to end his influence.
(Thoughts)
Pos:
Contains horror and adventurous elements making it a little more unique and fun
Personal favorite at the moment.
Has a moral message
Unique setting
Neg:
Would be hard to find an audience for this.
Message may be lost on those who will find it the most popular (ie drawn to violence and horror elements)
Violent
May need to simplify plot from having the "guardian angel."
